世界上没有植物我们就没有氧气或者水分。没有植物，我们就没有生命。没有植物，地球就没有未来。作者是一位生物机机器人学家，她带着我们跨过一个生物学跟机器人的界限，分享现在科学家知道的一切，以及还有多少还需要从大自然发现的知识。

数百年来，植物担任了地球的“工程师”，将地球变成一个天堂。没有了植物，我们的地球就会像火星一样，无法生存。所以为什么人类多年来这么对待我们的自然世界？我们必须睁开眼睛，看到大自然的富裕以及慷慨，如何帮助我们生存以及发展。要这么做，我们必须研究它、跟它学习。比如能源这个领域，我们能透过研究植物如何在最极端的环境下生存学习，是否能帮助未来的人类同样从这种艰苦的环境下摄取能源？

关于作者：

Barbara Mazzolai是一位拥有微工程博士学位的生物学家。她是Instituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Pontedera的Micro-BioRobotics的总监。她参与的European FED (Future and Emerging Technologies)是一个备受尊敬的项目，他们赞助一些最具远见的研究项目。她曾领导Plantoid, 世界上第一个由植物作为灵感的机器人，的发明--这个机器人能帮助从外太空探索到微手术到大自然观察等许多不同领域。在2015年，Robohub，全世界最大的机器人专家科学社群，将她列为25位机器人领域里最出色的女性之一。她的第一本书La Natura Geniale (The Genius of Nature)在2019年出版。
