My Family and the Galapagos is by TV broadcaster and explorer Monty Halls

Headline publishing director Sarah Emsley acquired world rights in My Family and the Galapagos from Julian Alexander at The Soho Agency. The book, based on the Channel 4 TV programme of the same name, will be published in hardback alongside the broadcast of the programme's second series.

According to the acquisition statement: 'The Galapagos Islands have captured hearts and captivated imaginations for centuries. As an explorer, TV presenter, marine biologist, ex-Royal Marine, and now President of the Galapagos Conservation Trust, Monty is a passionate advocate for those trying to save and protect the most important archipelago on the planet.

'My Family and the Galapagos follows Monty and his dedicated research team – his wife, Tam, and their two young daughters, Molly and Isla – as they spend two long summers living on the islands, diving into the culture of the Galapagos and the desperately needed conservation work taking place there, and experiencing just what life is like at the world’s most spectacular tourist destination.'

Emsley said: "We couldn’t be prouder to be publishing this important and inspiring memoir. Monty writes of his time on the Galapagos with warmth, passion and authority as he guides us around the archipelago and through the ground-breaking conservation work being carried out to save the spectacular islands and their incredible diversity of wildlife."

Halls said: "This is such an important period not only in the future of the Galapagos, but also the environment generally. To be able to chronicle our experiences in this book, to witness our little girls exploring such an key World Heritage Site, and to be part of the community on this most famous of all island archipelagos, was an absolute privilege. The book celebrates family adventure, whilst also looking into the future of the Galapagos and the wider world." My Family and the Galapagos will publish on 13 February.
