达尔文（1809-1882）是谁？这是科学城的达尔文展览的最中心问题。他们试着透过展览来回答这个复杂的问题。本书呈现了达尔文的社会背景，包括他的家庭以及他早年的一些经历（他22岁到27的时候环游世界1741天，研究了南半球的动植物），这一切都影响了他的工作以及研究。
他决定了进化论，也就是现在的所有现存物种都是从某一个或者一些共同的祖先进化出来的，而透过自然选择，某一些物种因为能够适应他们的环境所以能够存活到现在，有一些因为失败则是灭绝了。达尔文在1859年出版了On the Origin of Species这本书，里面总结了他的所有发现，这本书也是现代生物学的最基本的一本书。
本书带着读者走过达尔文的一生，可以看到达尔文私人的一面，也可以见识他他对科学界、文学界、艺术界、建筑界等等贡献了多少。
关于作者：
Guillame Lecointre是一位大学教授以及研究员。他同时在法国自然科学博物馆担任教师。他写过许多本书，同时也是Charlie Hebdo的每周科学专栏家。
Patrick Tort是International Charles Darwin Institute（www.darwinisme.org ）的主任，也是自然科学博物馆的研究员。他拥有文学以及哲学的博士学位，写过近50本书。他同时是Académie des Sciences的荣誉资金获奖者。
