FRANCO CARDINI is one of the most important Italian historians, expert in the history of the Crusades, pilgrimages and relations between Europe and the East. Professor emeritus of Medieval History in the Italian Institute of Human Sciences of the Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa, is Directeur d'Études in the EHSS of Paris, Deputy Director of the Higher School of Historical Studies of the University of San Marino and Fellow of Harvard University - I Tatti Foundation. His essays include Alle radici della cavalleria medievale (il Mulino, 2002), L'invenzione del Nemico (Sellerio, 2006), I templari (Giunti, 2011), Gerusalemme (il Mulino, 2012), L'hypocsia dell'Occidente (Laterza, 2015). SIMONETTA CERRINI is concerned with the history of the culture and spirituality of the laity in the Middle Ages and is considered one of the major scholars of the Templars.
