牛津大学的博德利图书馆是全球数一数二最大也最古老的地图珍藏地，地图室里有各种地图还有可追朔回十四世纪的地图学古籍，其中有许多资料及收藏都极为罕见也极具历史意义。

《地图室的宝藏》从地图室里选出七十五个珍贵地图与书籍，这些资料都收藏在博德利图书馆特别馆藏威斯顿图书馆(Weston Library)中。书中收录了十四世纪到二十一世纪的地图，其中包括十四世纪时最早的大英道路图（当时这幅地图的准确率和细节都是无可比拟的）、十五世纪用于航海的波特兰海图、中国的赛尔登地图（最早的中国航线地图）、一幅来自中古世纪伊斯兰书籍Book of Curiosities中的早期地图。这本书也收录了许多较近期的好地图，像是托尔金（J.R.R. Tolkien）亲手注释的中土大陆地图 C. S. Lewis纳尼亚地图。本书编辑Debbie Hall 带着读者了解每幅宝图背后引人入胜的故事：霍乱爆发的地图、1850年代的印度拼图地图、飞行员二战时占领欧洲时随身携带的丝质逃脱地图。
书中收录多张全彩图，且每幅地图都有写明出处、目的及制作的描述，《地图室的宝藏》绝对是本美不胜收又富含知识的珍藏品！
