本书有简体中文翻译样章。一位来自北京大学的教授看了这本书后感触非常深，很希望看到中文版本，于是自己决定翻译这本书。他提供了翻译样章给有兴趣的出版社评估，认为亚洲也存在书中讨论的问题，非常希望简繁体中文市场能够出提供给大众参考。
 
如果能够筛查出癌症、心脏病，或者其它潜在致命的疾病，我們当然会选择进行筛查，对不对？健康最重要，是不是？
 
本书的作者认为不完全正确。这本书带我们进入医学筛查的世界，探讨在有善良意图的医生以及只追求利益的产业中间存在多少灰色的地带。人们都害怕死亡，都希望自己以及家人都能够健康，而这些最基本的情绪却经常被医疗产业剥削。那些促进筛查的人过度保证筛查的好处，故意隐藏它的风险，从小小的不舒服到严重、有生命危险的。不论你正在正打算进行乳癌或前列腺癌还是高胆固醇或低胆固醇的筛查，你需要问自己一个问题：万一出了什么状况，我有心理准备吗？当然，适当的筛查是必须的，很多疾病如果够早查出来是可以成功治疗以及控制的，但是本书的作者是在讨论那些过度或者不必要的筛查。大众需要教育自己，自己判断，而不是盲目地听所有专业人士跟我们说的话。
 
关于作者：
Alan Cassels是一位作者、药物政策研究员以及University of Victoria School of Human and Social Development的教授。他从1994年开始研究以及评估药物效益政策，调查药物的临床研究以及经验是如何沟通给决策者、医生们以及消费者。他担任过许多关于药物的研究案子的项目经理以及首席调查员。他写过四本书。
