这本书透过幽默的方式帮助年轻读者学习关于行为心理学、潜意识以及他們对于世界其实有多么大的影响。

第一章节样章:

It’s impossible to be consciously aware of everything you see; it would be too much. That is why you choose – subconsciously and very quickly – to see what is important to you at that moment. If someone tells you to look for a mouse without a tail, you will look at the mice and their tails. Other things, like a cat without a tail, you won’t see. You naturally skip this, because you aren’t looking for it.

Information that you are given beforehand, then determines what you look for and what you will and won’t see and hear. This arranges what you take in more clearly, but it can also distort your view of things or people. Because you pay attention to the things you expect to see. An example: there is a new girl in class and your teacher says, ‘This is Sanne. Be nice to her because she is a little bit nervous.’ From that moment on you will see signs of nervousness in Sanne. If she is unable to zip up her jacket in one go during the break, you are likely to think, she must be nervous. If the teacher had not said anything, your first thought could just as well have been, Sanne’s zipper is broken.
