书评

«The best Norwegian crime debut in years» Adresseavisa:

Krypdyrmemoarer, Silje O. Ulstein’s debut novel has gained widespread attendion already before its Norwegian publication and was instantly preempted in three territories.

The novel is a dark, daring and highly original psychological thriller about shame, loneliness and forbidden desires, in which the author explores whether it is possible to shed ones skin and become someone else entirely. The story plays out and shifts between two time-levels: The early 2000’s where three flat-mates in their twenties decide to get a baby tiger python as pet. And 2017, where an 11-year old girl goes missing.

Gutkind publisher Jacob Søndergaard:

A stranglehold of a thriller. Finally an addition to the genre that defies every cliche and that with its originality and glowing prose, sets a new standard for what the reader can expect from a psychological suspense novel. «Krypdyrmemoarer» is brave, ambitous, intense and deeply terrifying.

Maria Såthe, Literary Director Wahlström & Widstrand:

«Krypdyrmemoarer” is a masterful, disturbing and incredibly well-written psychologial thriller, with a story that plays out on two parallel levels. One is lineary, completely realistic and solid, the other coiling, evasive and nightmare-like. Together, they form a novel that is engrossing, terrifying, exhilerating and-until the very end, completely unpredictable.

'I'm head-over-heels about this book and would be so excited to be its English-language publisher, and general champion! It's something so special, a book that could appeal to literary readers, anyone who enjoys a weird or unconventional story, and lovers of traditional crime. It has been a joy to go back to this book, think about the characters and learning about their different pasts and traumas, feeling empathy as well as gasping at some of the things that they do. It's a wonderfully measured book that never goes too far but always keeps the reader on the line - a real feat. I loved the sound of this book from the moment I heard about it and while reading have felt just more and more excited right up until the final page.

Hege Roel-Rousson, publisher Actes Sud (France):

I love the creeping suspense Silje O. Ulstein creates throughout this story, a sensation both thrilling and disturbing. Something feels slightly off in many of her characters, like a ticking bomb just beneath the surface. She has a great sense of timing and her clever twists that caught me by surprise on several occasions. And I am deeply impressed by how a debut author this young, masters such an ambitions plot while also providing emotional depth and solid psychological insight. This is definitely not your cookie-cutter Nordic thriller, and I find it so refreshing!

Editor Fransesca Varotto, Marsilio (Italy):

«Krypdyrmemoarer is a very original and cleverly constructed novel, a truly enjoyable page-turner.Everything that happens is unexpected and the narrative tension remains high until the very end.It is a captivating, intense, unpredictable reading, far from the usual thrillers: Silje Ulstein shows strong inventiveness and an outstanding talent, and we at Marsilio are delighted to enrich our list with her brilliant and unique voice.»

A riveting, dark thriller packed with twists and turns. The main character is unusual, unpredictable and mysterious, which makes her utterly fascinating. Silje Ulstein is a refreshing new voice in Scandinavian crime fiction and we are thrilled to have "Krypdyrmemoarer" on our list.
