“Vibrant characters, finely-observed social backdrops and universal themes of love, friendship and survival ... The Privileged is well-written, thoughtful commercial fiction that tells a compelling story ... A Circle of Friends for the 21st century”
Irish Times

“[Hourican] has perfected the high-wire feat between lush description and keeping the plot shuttling along at a pleasing pace ... As with most great writing, The Privileged packs plenty of truth and social commentary beneath its story”
Irish Independent

“A powerful portrayal of the joyous freedom and existential uncertainty of early adulthood ... offers a smooth, well-written narrative and realistic, engaging characters worthy of critical attention ... Hourican looks set for a glittering future”
Sunday Business Post

“I loved the atmospheric sense the author brought to this and the realistic threads that ran through the group dynamic, it was absolutely about that friendship between the three of them and how the differences in temperament and outlook informed it. Events around them causing things to change but the core remained - it was beautifully constructed and elegantly told.”
