这是第一本英文西藏当代小说选辑，《西藏故事文学集》收录了最好的西藏作家作品，里面有藏民和海外侨胞原本用藏语、英文和中文写的文章。

当代西藏文学出现的时间不算长，大约四十年左右而已，这类文体的出现要追朔到1980年，在拉萨出版的第一本藏语期刊。此后，短篇故事便成为主要的当代西藏艺术形式。读者可以透过这些有时荒诞、有时奇异却总是动人的故事，了解西藏平民如何在传统与现代、占领与流亡、个人与民族之间调适、找到自己的定位。书中的故事背景设定非常多元，有喜玛拉雅山、印度铁路及纽约的妓院，但不管这些故事在哪里发生，故事中对这个古老文化及现代人的生活和担忧的洞见都是非常真实且力道十足的。

本书的编辑兼译者Tenzin Dickie，集结了由16位目前最受推崇的知名西藏作家，所写的21则短篇，包括白马奔（ Pema Bhum ）、万玛才旦(Pema Tseden)、次仁顿珠（Tsering Dhondup）、唯色（Woeser）、次仁旺姆(Tsering Wangmo Dhompa)、嘉青德卓(Kyabchen Dedrol) 与嘉央诺布(Jamyang Norbu)等人。
