本书由牛津大学德语教授 Ritchie Robertson 编着，纪念卡夫卡逝世一百周年。书中收录多篇学术论文，搭配手稿丶档案资料丶明信片与家庭照片，深入呈现卡夫卡的生活丶创作与想像力。

书中展示他如何透过西欧旅行练习描写丶透过阅读探索遥远空间，小说中的熟悉场景因此变得陌生而引人思考。他对动物的描写也尝试进入非人类的视角。即使百年後，卡夫卡的作品仍持续启发全球文学丶戏剧与电影创作。

作者  Ritchie Robertson 於2021年自牛津大学德语教授职位退休。他着有《卡夫卡：犹太教丶政治与文学》（Kafka: Judaism, Politics, and Literature，1985）。
